Department of Anatomy

History

  • The Department of Anatomy of T.N.Medical College started under the able Guidance of Dr. V.G.Kale who took over form Dr. Variava who also occupied the Office Of the Dean. Greater emphasis was placed on the role of dissection and the upkeep of the museum . Dr.E.J.DeSouza joined the department in 1951 and had a long inning till 1979 In which he contributed significantly doing research in the field of Histo-chemistry And Cytology. In 1979, Dr. J.S.Kalgutkar took over from him as the Professor and Head of Department. Dr.M.B Indurkar took over from him in the year 1986, followed by Dr. I.M.Mehta in 1989 who excelled in teaching undergraduate and post graduate
    students.
    Dr. Uma A.Puri was  Professor & Head of the Dept. from 1995 to 1999. In 1999   Dr.(Mrs) M.V.Ambiye took over as Head of the Dept. During her tenure The departmentunderwent renovation with funding provided by TNMC Global Alumni , the dissection hall, Museum, Lecture Theater were renovated. Computers And LCD projectors & cold storage for preserving bodies were provided by Department. Anatomy M.C.Q  Bank is being developed.  

Important Moments In Past:

  • Renovation Of lecture Theatre No 502 with installation of LCD Projector
  • September 2006 with association of Nair global Allumnii
  • Renovation of dissection hall with Audio and visual (LCD) aids &
  • Video camera for live projection of dissection on screen – May 2007 with association of Nair global Allumni
  • Renovation of museum – December 2007 with association of Nair global Allumnii
